Fashionably Nerdy Family : The Best Books For Growing Nerdy Minds (Babies to Toddlers)

One of the best parts of being a parent is seeing your children learn and grow and my sweet daughter is obsessed with books and has been for quite some time (which sounds so weird since she is just at the cusp of 15 months old) but every chance she gets she pulls out books and brings them to us and asks us to read to her or even drags a book into a corner and just sits and reads to herself. We have been so lucky to acquire a library fitting of such a fabulous little lit lover in training and surprisingly her favorite books we absolutely approve of so we thought we would share some of our favorite nerdy books for babies and toddlers. These books are all board books that I feel confident that will not get torn up if we leave her alone with them.

1). “Baby Loves…” Science Series
These are Lulu’s favorite books and we know why – bright simple pictures with familiar shapes and animals — featuring cats, apples, butterflies and teaching her about the fundamentals of major scientific concepts – in her quantum physics book she asks is the cat in the box asleep or awake in the thermo dynamics books she learns how all living things get energy from the sun… these books are a great start to building your child’s brain and love of learning and they are board books so they will take a beating when she goes SMASH reading about protons and neutrons in the Quarks book. Author Ruth Spiro is writing beautiful books for our young people’s minds and nurturing them well.

The titles we own are: Baby Loves Quarks, Baby Loves Aerospace Engineering, Baby Loves Quantum Physics, Baby Loves Gravity, Baby Loves Thermodynamics

2). “Baby Lit”
The Baby Lit series is amazing taking some of our favorite books from classic literature and translating them into very simple board books that give the flavor of the real versions while teaching vocabulary such as colors, shapes, hobbies, friendship, sounds, and even french. We hope these books make Lulu hunger to read the expanded versions as she grows.

The titles we own are: Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, A Midsummer Night’s Dream,  Les Miserables, Little Women

3). DC Superhero Board Books
We were gifted a set of a lot of these and we love them as they teach values and about some of our favorite heroes and villains. These are almost all touch and feel books which are great for young readers to play with the tactile pages. However, Batman on his bat rope inevitably got torn out by the first week.

The titles we own: My First Wonder Woman Book, My First Batman Book, My First Superman Book, My First Book of Super Villains, DC Super Heroes Colors, Shapes, and More, and DC Super Heroes Opposites

4). Hello World, Solar System
Lulu’s Nursery is Space  themed so it makes sense that she received several space themed books before she was born and as she looks up at her Solar System mobile and points several times a day we teach her about each planet and this book is a bright and beautiful companion to her studies

5).Good Night Galaxy
As stated before Lulu and Space go hand and hand and while her Solar System book teaches about all the planets in our Solar System this book expands outside of that to teach major concepts in Space.

6). If I were a Unicorn
We love touch and feel books and this was the first one Lulu fell in love with from about 3 months old she always asked for this book and maybe it’s because we always read it in a deep voice with a raspiness that we have dubbed is the voice of all unicorns (sounds like Joey Tribiani’s agent from friends)

7). C is For Castle
We have to provide some training in the genre of fantasy for our kids, right? C is for Castle is great as an alphabet and fantasy primer by teaching fantasy themed vocabulary such as B is for Blacksmith, D is for Dragon, O is for Ogre. The pictures in this book are absolutely adorable.

8). Jane Foster’s Cities
The Jane Foster’s City Board Books are adorable for nurturing your little with a love of travel and exploration. The books feature simple colorful drawings of famous cities and the sights and foods you will see in them. Paris introduces them to croissants and poodles, London introduces Red Busses and Fish and Chips, New York brings Taxi Cabs and Pretzels.

The titles we own: Jane Foster’s Paris, Jane Foster’s Washington DC, Jane Foster’s New York, Jane Foster’s London

We have plenty more amazing nerdy books in our collection but these are the board books that Lulu loves!
