Stephanie and a few FN friends try the CoverGirl, Star Wars: The Force Awakens Makeup line for Buzzfeed

One of the main reasons I didn’t post any videos or photos of myself using the CoverGirl line was because I was scheduled to try it for a Buzzfeed video and wanted to authentically try it for the first time on camera. I was so lucky to be asked to be apart of such a wonderful group of girls including:
We Love Fine, designer, Katie Elhoffer
Chubby Bunny, designer & Defective Geeks Reporter, Michelle Nguyen Bradley and
Nerd Girl and Cosplayer, Katrina Perez.

I have appeared in a few Buzzfeed videos recently because my good friend, Jenny Lorenzo has been developing more Nerdy Content for Buzzfeed so, we are collaborating on a bunch of projects (I’ll post some below so you can check them out and share them with your friends…).

But my thoughts on the CoverGirl line…

So, the things I love….
1)The Gold Lipstick (subtle and pretty – however you would need a sealer because its light and you will need to reapply often)
2)The Mascara (The applicator and the product are really great)
3)Red Revenge Nail Polish (I rarely wear nail polish, thanks to Espionage Cosmetics Nailed It, Nail Wraps- but I’m buying this one – Star Wars or not it’s a great color and a good formula that stays put!)
4)Nemesis Nail Polish (just another pretty colored nail polish, I super love it… fact… I only painted 1 nail on this shoot with this color and I am so tempted to go buy it to match all the other nails to it)
5)The Packaging (Though they missed the mark without making lightsaber mascaras that make sounds when you use them and the nail polish bottle are not shaped like droids… the packaging is actually very sophisticated and sleek – and I find it appealing… and mature and I do like the quotes though some are better than others…)

The things I don’t love…
1)No color names… I get it – Katie explained that the licensing is super strict and the reason they probably don’t have names is because they can’t reveal anything about the film before the film is released. Still it would have been cool to have names… any names…
2)The silver and lilac lipsticks – We had scheduled a friend of mine to be apart of this shoot that has much darker skin than any of us and I was anxious to see how these colors looked on her but scheduling conflicts meant she could not make it, I hope that these look flattering on someone because they definitely are not pretty on me – but that being said I still want to buy them —- why? Because at some point I will have some costume that will require those colors and it’s CoverGirl so the price point is good to just keep in my makeup kit for a rare occasion alongside my bright blue lip tar from OCC.
3)The Taupe/Beige Nail Polish – in the bottle it looks grey or silver – it goes on as blah as blah could be – again this is another color that might look gorgeous on someone with some color in their skin – but that is certainly not me who is fair as fair can be…
4)I’m with Katie – colored Mascaras would have been cool… I loved them in middle school and high school and it would have been cool to have brighter colors… like a sith red mascara might look super awesome on… sigh…

Closing thoughts…
Listen, I know people have ethical issues with CoverGirl…
but at the end of the day this is a huge leap forward for fan girls…
I don’t know 1 single american girl that has never owned 1 CoverGirl product
CoverGirl is readily available and affordable… and now girls that are fans of Sci-Fi can walk into a drugstore and buy makeup that they can afford with their favorite fandom on it.
We are always complaining that there are not enough licensed items for women and now we have 1 really cool line of makeup out there. This is huge deal… so we didn’t get eyeshadow palettes, liners or bronzers yet — but if this is successful all cosmetic brands will have to step it up and offer licensed items… so thank you to CoverGirl for trying to pave the way.

Stephanie

oh… and here are a few of the other Buzzfeed videos…
